Palakura Mamidikaya Pappu-Spinach Mango Dal

Palakura Mango pappu is a delicious Indian lentil preparation using spinach greens, mango and toor dal.

Preparation: 20 mts
Serves :3-4 persons


3/4 cup toor dal
4 cups chopped spinach
1/2 cup onion chopped
1 cup green raw mango grated
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
6 green chilis, split lengthwise
salt to taste
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
3-4 garlic cloves minced
2 dry red chilis, split in half
1 stem fresh curry leaves
2 teaspoons oil

1.Heat oil in a pressure cooker, Add mustard and cumin and let splutter.

2.Add  curry leaves,garlic, green chilies and turmeric and saute for 1 minute.
3.Add the onions and saute for 3-4 minutes.
4.Add the mango and saute for 1 minute.
5.Add the spinach and saute for 1 minute.
6.Add the Toor dal, salt and saute and add 2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles and turn off the stove.Open the lid and you can use it as is or cook it further on slow to medium flame till you get the desired consistency.

This goes excellent with rice and roti.
