Beerakaya Palu Posina Kura-RidgeGourd with Milk

This is a recipe from my Mom made using ridge gourd and milk,it is slightly on the sweeter side.
Preparation time: 30 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients:
2 ridge gourds chopped into small pieces(3 cups of ridge gourd-don peel the skin, peel just the ridges on the skin)
2 teaspoons oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon urad dal
1 teaspoon chana dal
5 garlic cloves minced
6 green chilies split lengthwise
1 stem curry leaves
1 medium onion finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
salt to taste
1/2 cup milk
chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Procedure:
1.Heat oil in a cooker and add chana dal and urad dal and saute till lightly brown. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and turmeric and let them splutter. Add the and let splutter.

2.Add garlic and saute for a minute.

3.Add the onions and  green chilies saute for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
4. Add the chopped ridge gourd pieces and combine.
5.Add water until the pieces submerge, add salt and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
6. Once the steam is gone, remove the lid and turn on the stove and let water be evaporated. Add red chilli powder and milk  and keep stirring until a creamy consistency is obtained an turn off the stove.Serve Hot.

Tips:

Serve with rice or roti.
